Egwu Qualifies for NCAA Regionals at Weems Baskin Relays

Friday, March 18, 2005, Columbia, SC -- Senior Blessing Egwu qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Regional Championship this afternoon in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.78m at the Weems Baskin Relays at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. Egwu also qualified for the ECAC and BIG EAST Championships with her performance in the hammer throw.
Judy Owens also placed in the top three in the hammer throw with a BIG EAST qualifying distance of 45.15m, while Nenjae Gibson (42.21m) and Dominique Eason (39.59m) rounded out the top seven for the Red Storm.
Also in the field events, graduate student Grace Zollman placed first in the javelin with a distance of 41.43m. In the triple jump, Kellie Brown placed third in the triple jump at 11.64m.
In the relay events late in the day, St. John's finished second in the 4x300m (2:47.32), 4x1200m (15:29.44) and 800 sprint medley (1:49.64).
The Red Storm returns to action tomorrow when they will compete in the second day of the Weems Baskin Relays in Columbia, SC.
