Sunday, May 15, 2005 - After placing first in the semi-finals, St. John's graduate student Kerrian Stewart won the 100m finals with a time of 11.75 at the 2005 ECAC Outdoor Championships on Sunday. The Red Storm placed 15th overall out of 45 teams that competed in the meet in Princeton, NJ.
This is the third major championship that Stewart has won either the 100m or the 200m dash this outdoor season, first at the Metropolitan Championships on April 16 and at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship on May 8. Stewart also swept the same three major indoor championships in the 60m dash earlier this year.
This is the second straight year that sprint coach Pete Zinno has produced an ECAC Individual Champion, with Shernette Hyatt-Davis capturing the 100m and 200m events at the 2004 ECAC Outdoor track and field Championships last May.
Blessing Egwu (hammer throw) will join Stewart next weekend, May 20-22, to compete in the NCAA Regional Championship held on Randall's Island in New York.
