May 8, 2005, Piscataway, NJ - The St. John's University track and field team participated in the final day of the 2005 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships this afternoon at the Bauer Track and Field Complex on the campus of Rutgers University. The Red Storm finished with a total of 50 points to place ninth at the meet.
After qualifying for the 400m with the fastest time yesterday, Kerrian Stewart took the crown this afternoon with a time of 53.50, outdistancing second-place finisher Notre Dame Sophomore Okechi Ogbuokiri (53.80).
Senior Blessing Egwu finished first in the hammer throw competition with her longest toss reaching 58.67 meters. Syracuse Brittany Pryor (53.85 meters) finished second and Pittsburgh senior Amanda Walker (52.91 meters) finished third. Fellow senior Judy Owens took fifth place in the discus throw with a distance of 42.59 for the Red Storm.

The 4x400m relay team of Thalene King, Tarashon Broomes, Kay-Dian Reid and Stewart took third place with an outstanding time of 3:45.33 for St. John's. The 4x100m relay team also placed within the top eight with a time of 47.57.
The Red Storm returns to action this Thursday, May 12 when they will travel to Princeton, NJ for the ECAC Championships.
