Cross Country Team Finishes Eighth At The Quinnipiac Invitational

Queens, NY- Junior Jodey Johnson led the St. John's cross country team to an eighth place finish at the Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, CT on Friday. Johnson (Portmore, Jamaica) clocked in at 20:04.7 for a 35th place finish overall.
Senior Jasmine Barreto (Staten Island, NY) strided to a 46th place in 20:34.5 while freshman Rakibat Abiola (Staten Island, NY) crossed the line in 21:10.2 for 65th. Junior Kristen Levy (Salisbury Mills, NY) finished in 22:34.3 for 87th place and sophomore Tara Normandin (Waterford, NY) closed out the scoring for the Red Storm in 91st place in a time of 22:57.4.
Meanwhile, senior Thamara Cherisme (104-25:05.4), freshman Nerissa Pelle (106-25:27.9), senior Tarashon Broomes (107-26:30.1), freshman Maggie Snyder (108-26:33.3) and senior Kaydian Reid (111-27:23.5) also competed for St. John's.
"We still need to get more aggressive early in the race and that should come as our confidence in our fitness improves with the quality training we have been putting in," said head coach Jim Hurt. "We are looking forward to the Metropolitan Championships next month to see how much faster we can run back on the Van Cortlandt Park course."
The Red Storm will take next weekend off and then returns to action at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, Oct. 7 in Van Cortland Park, Bronx, NY.
