The St. John???s women???s tennis and softball teams made Halloween a particularly special treat this year, making individual team appearances at the Ozanam Nursing Home and the St. Mary???s Children???s Hospital.
The women???s tennis team started the Halloween festivities early with a trip to Ozanam Nursing Home on Oct. 26. The Red Storm traded their tennis rackets in for Bugs Bunny and Sylvester costumes while visiting the residents of Ozanam. A vampire and pirate could also be seen posing for pictures and sharing Halloween memories with the elderly.
???It was great seeing the residents light up when Sylvester and Bugs entered the room,??? said head coach Allison Davidson. ???The girls took a lot away from the experience and had fun at the same time.???
The softball team made their annual trip to the St. Mary???s Children???s Hospital on Oct. 31. The new coaching staff joined the players in dressing up as members of the Wizard of Oz and as well as many other creative costumes. The Red Storm spent time in the toddler unit of the hospital before joining recreational time and leading a Halloween Bingo.
???Spending the evening with the children in the hospital on Halloween was such a rewarding experience,??? said head coach Amy Kvilhaug. ???As blessed individuals with the wonderful opportunities St. John???s has presented us with, I think it is very important to give back to the community. Seeing smiles on all of the children???s faces while playing and interacting with them made our night more memorable.???
