Third-Seeded St. John’s Set to Face No. 6 Villanova in BIG EAST Quarterfinals on Friday

The Red Storm seek 11th straight conference semifinals appearance
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team opens postseason play on Friday in Cayce, S.C. against sixth-seeded Villanova. First-serve from the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center is set for 1 p.m.
Friday will be the second time this season the two programs will square off with the Red Storm taking down the Wildcats on March 22, 5-2 in Pennsylvania.
In that match, Villanova claimed the doubles point, but St. John's responded with a dominant singles performance, winning five of six matches to secure a 5-2 victory.
Abi Redman and Alicia Gomez led the comeback with straight-set wins, while Charlotta Buss added another point to extend the lead. Victoria Papadopoulou clinched the match on the No. 1 court with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Nao Kojima capped the day with a three-set win as the Red Storm earned their fifth straight victory over the Wildcats.
Villanova swept past No. 11 Providence, 4-0, on Thursday in the tournament's opening round to advance to Friday's quarterfinal against the Red Storm. The Wildcats went 11-9 and 1-3 in BIG EAST action.
This match represents the 20th matchup between the two program's dating back to 2004 with the Johnnies leading the series 17-2.
The winner of Friday's quarterfinal will advance to Saturday's semifinal, set to begin at 1 p.m. from the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
