QUEENS, N.Y. - The Red Storm improved its current win streak to six with a pair of wins over Fairleigh Dickinson. St. John's pitchers Jessica Foley (Orange County, Calif.) and Lisa Geer (Anaheim, Calif.) dominated on the mound while the offense went on to score 19 runs off of 18 hits. St. John's took the first win 10-2(5) and the second, 9-0(5).
Game One:
The Red Storm scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for what would be a two win day against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights. The top of St. John's lineup proved to be lethal for the Knights as the top four batters accounted for eight runs, seven hits and seven RBI. Eight Red Storm batters recorded at least one hit.
A two run double from junior Tami Hill (San Diego, Calif.) helped put the game away for St. John's in the bottom of the third. That inning started off with consecutive singles from Loren Anguiano (Mesa, Ariz.) and Roxann Struble (Chino, Calif.) and by the time it was over, St. John's was up 10-1.
Rookie pitcher Jessica Foley (Orange County, Calif.) had her best outing yet in the circle, throwing a not hitter through three innings. She allowed only one earned run in her fifth victory of the season and struck out two of the final three batters she faced.
Fairleigh Dickinson's Shauna Hawthorne had the lone hit of the day for the Knights while Hope Hilman and KC Hallgren scored a run apiece. The Red Storm took the first game in five innings, 10-2.
Game Two:
St. John's came out strong again in game two, scoring two runs in the first inning but a five run second is what put the Red Storm ahead for good.
The Knights freshman pitcher Courtney Haroules struggled in the circle, walking four out of the first five batters she saw in the second inning. St. John's was able to capitalize on Haroules's troubles and Anguiano's two RBI double put the Red Storm up 7-2 by the end of the inning.
Freshman Lauren Lupinetti (Long Beach, Calif.) capped the day with a two run home run over the left field fence in the fourth inning. The homer was the rookie's fifth of the season.
Sophomore Lisa Geer (Anaheim, Calif.) dazzled in the circle, striking out eight of the 18 batters she faced. She tossed her first career no hitter over a shortened five inning outing and earned her fifth win of the season.
The Red Storm will look to carry its six game win streak into the weekend when it will open BIG EAST conference play. St. John's will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers, March 25 at 12 p.m. The team will then return home to host Syracuse in its first home conference game of the season, Sunday, March 26 at noon.
