TAMPA, Fla. - Hi everyone, this is Ashley Harper from the women's tennis team. I'm just dropping in to say hi from the BIG EAST Tennis Tournament.
It is 85 degrees here in Tampa, Fla., and the humidity is 84 percent. How is it up there in the Big Apple? Absolutely fabulous, I'm sure! The St. Johns women's tennis team knows how to turn any day into a great day, so allow me to take you through our first day in the heat. We met for breakfast around 9 a.m. and then relaxed before practice at 11:45. Practice went real well, besides having to deal with the heat!
After sweating it out on the court for an hour and a half, we got lost on the way to the grocery store, but hey what else is new! So we stopped in a 7-Eleven and grabbed some Gatorade and then eventually we found our way to Publix, the major supermarket in the area, which we happened to spend entirely too much time in.
We finally made it back to the hotel in enough time to meet up with some our St. John's men's tennis team members at the pool. We played a couple rounds of pool volleyball with Tom [Green] and Louis [Desmarteaux] before heading for the hot tub and the sauna. We showered and then went to dinner, which was a great for some more team bonding. After dinner we stopped at a Starbucks and then (sigh of relief) went back to the hotel for a little wireless Internet session and some R&R.
Are you exhausted yet? Well, we were and that was just Day 1.
Today we woke up and had breakfast at the hotel before heading out to the courts for our first match of the tournament against Connecticut. The men's team came out to support before they went over to the P.E. Courts to practice. It was great having them out there. B [Barbora Blahutiakova] and Ana [Chachua] won their doubles match and so did Zetti [Lauren Lorenzetti] and Gabi [Gasiunaite]. That gave us the advantage heading into the singles matches. We came out on top with Nataly, Ana and Zetti recording wins at their respective spots.
Afterwards, we headed back to the hotel for some relaxation before dinner. We all headed out to the pool and hung out with the men's team. Dinner was great. Alison Adamski's dad came out with us and we took a ton of pictures.
Tomorrow we play DePaul at noon and the men begin their tournament play against host South Florida at 9 a.m. But for now, it's time to sleep. Thanks for all your support and, I'm sure someone will check in later in the week. But for now...
GO RED STORM!!!!!!!!!
