Andrew Svoboda, one of the most talented golfers to play at St. John???s, closed out his fairytale run at the 2006 U.S. Open on Friday, June 16. He was just one stroke short of the making the final cut.
Svoboda matched his round one score of 75 in the second round on Friday for a combined 10-overpar 150. Despite making some quality shots throughout the day, a double-bogey six on the 14th hole proved to be the difference. The final cut was comprised of players with a combined score of 9-over par 149 or better.
???I???m happy and proud of the way I finished,??? said Svoboda. ???I played well considering it was my first time in an Open. It was an incredible chance to play with the big boys and get on the biggest stage in golf. I know I handled myself really well out there and I???m proud of the fact that I got to compete.???
