Huang Named To BIG EAST Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior Hui Ping Huang was named to the BIG EAST volleyball weekly honor roll for the eighth week of the season, the conference announced Monday. This marked the second time this season that Huang has been named to the honor roll. The honor comes after the Red Storm swept Rutgers in the team's lone match of the week, Sunday afternoon. The win improved St. John's record to 21-3 (6-1 BIG EAST).
Huang had an incredible match for the Red Storm in the sweep. She led all players with 18 kills, while also registering four digs, three total blocks and a service ace. She recorded the match's second-best hitting percentage with a .548 mark and she accounted for 20.5 of the Red Storm's 67 points.
Huang currently leads all BIG EAST players with a .410 hitting percentage, while her 4.46 kills per game ranks third in the conference.
Also representing the Red Storm among BIG EAST individual leaders are seniors Wioleta Leszczynska and LaToya Blunt, as well as junior Lena Yee. Leszczynska continues to lead all setters with a conference-best 13.81 assists per game. Blunt ranks third in hitting percentage with a .363 mark, while Yee's 4.61 digs per game is good for fourth in the BIG EAST.
The Red Storm, collectively, rank first in the conference in assists per game (16.11), kills per game (17.21) and digs per game (16.60). The team ranks second in the BIG EAST with a .269 hitting percentage, fourth with 2.71 blocks per game, and eighth with 1.62 service aces per game.
Huang, Leszczynska, Blunt, Yee and the rest of the Red Storm return to action Friday night when the team travels to Storrs, Conn. to take on the Huskies of UConn. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
