Leszczynska Named To BIG EAST Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior setter Wioleta Leszczynska was named to the BIG EAST Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll for the tenth week of the season, the conference announced on Monday. This marks the third time this season that Leszczynska was given the honor. She was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for week five back on Oct. 1.
The honor comes on the heels of another perfect week for the Red Storm (24-3, 8-1 BIG EAST), who picked up two more conference wins with 3-0 sweeps over DePaul and Notre Dame at home.
Leszczysnka led all players in assists in both matches, picking up 44 against DePaul on Friday, and 40 against the Fighting Irish on Sunday. She also registered 10 service aces over the weekend (three on Friday and seven on Sunday).
For the ninth straight week, Leszczynska leads the BIG EAST in assists per game with 13.84. Through games played on October 21, she ranked fifth in the nation with 13.83 assists per game.
Also representing the Red Storm among BIG EAST leaders are seniors Hui Ping Huang and LaToya Blunt, as well as juniors Lena Yee and Valeria Kovaleva. Huang is first in the conference with a .423 hitting percentage and ranks third with 4.48 kills per game, while Blunt is third in hitting percentage with .371 and ninth in blocks per game with 1.18. Yee leads St. John's and is fourth in the BIG EAST with 4.65 digs per game, while Kovaleva ranks ninth in the conference with 0.38 service aces per game.
The Red Storm ranks first in the conference in hitting percentage (.277), assists per game (16.20), kills per game (17.35), and digs per game (16.78). The team is fourth with 1.78 aces per game and sixth with 2.65 blocks per game.
Leszczynska, Huang, Blunt, Yee, Kovaleva and the rest of the Red Storm returns to action this weekend with back-to-back matches against Syracuse and Marquette, Saturday and Sunday. Both matches are set to begin at 2 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena.
