Showdown With Notre Dame Highlights Red Storm Homestand

The St. John's women's soccer team will play two BIG EAST games at Belson Stadium this weekend, as it faces DePaul Friday night at 7 p.m. and Notre Dame Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed live over the internet, and GameTracker will be available for both contests.
Weekend Storylines
• St. John's suffered its first loss of the season last weekend when it traveled to nationally ranked West Virginia Friday and fell 2-0 on the road. The Red Storm bounced back, however, with a strong showing at home against Pittsburgh, defeating the Panthers 4-1.
• Through eight games, St. John's was off to its best start in program history at 6-0-2, and still posts an impressive record with a 7-1-2 mark.
• Senior Krystle Jalalian continues to lead the Red Storm offensively, and she added her team-high fifth goal of the season Sunday against the Panthers. The forward has totaled 12 points on the year (5g, 2a) and ranks tied for seventh in the BIG EAST for points, fourth in goals and tied for fifth in goals per game (0.5).
• St. John's has posted four shutouts on the year, and Jaime Beran and Rebecca Capinera continue to split time in goal. Capinera's goals against average (0.59) ranks her seventh in the league, while Beran's (0.73) ranks eighth. The St. John's defense, meanwhile, has helped the team rank 37th in the nation with a 0.66 goals against average.
• This will be the first women's soccer meeting between St. John's and DePaul. The Red Storm trails the all-time series with Notre Dame, 0-10. Last year's BIG EAST quarterfinal match-up was a 3-0 Fighting Irish victory.
In The Rankings
• The Red Storm is currently ranked third in the Northeast region by Soccer Buzz Magazine and fourth in the region by the NSCAA.
Weekly Honors Roll In For Jalalian, Lee
• After totaling three goals during all of 2006, Krystle Jalalian exploded offensively in the first otweekend of 2007, scoring three goals and adding an assist. The senior forward was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week along with Big Apple Soccer.com's Player of the Week on Sept. 3. A week later, Raelynne Lee was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week (Sept. 10).
• Tara Mendoza (Sept. 24) and Kelly McConnell (Oct. 1) have each been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
First Time For Everything
• Sophomores Mendoza and Nicole Canning each scored their first career goals on Sunday against Pittsburgh.
A Look At DePaul
• DePaul was picked last in the National division of the BIG EAST and has a 4-6-1 record (1-2-0 in the conference).
• Shannon Williams leads the team with 11 points (5g, 1 a).
A Look At Notre Dame
• Notre Dame advanced to the national championship game last year and was picked to win the National division of the BIG EAST in 2007. It has a 5-4-1 record (3-0-0).
