Erin Palmeri scored just 16 seconds into her collegiate debut
NEWTON, Mass. – St. John's women's soccer dropped its first road match of the 2026 season to Boston College, 2-1, on Monday afternoon at Newton Campus Lacrosse & Soccer Field.
St. John's (0-2-0) battled Boston College (2-0-0) in a tightly contested matchup but ultimately fell, 2-1, despite a second-half comeback after trailing by a pair of goals.
Just moments after making her collegiate debut, Erin Palmeri made an immediate impact, netting her first career goal to cut the Eagles' lead in half in the 67th minute. After missing the entirety of last year due to injury, the sophomore needed just 16 seconds of action to find the back of the net in her first appearance in the red and white.
Nora Basile, who scored the Red Storm's lone goal in the season opener against UMass, continued her strong start to the 2026 campaign by assisting on Palmeri's tally. The Rockville Centre, N.Y., native has now recorded a point in each of St. John's first two matches of the season. Dating back to the end of the 2024 season, the junior has logged a point in each of her last three appearances.
Leah Anand recorded a pair of shots while goalkeeper Kayla Bower registered four saves between the pipes.
The two sides battled evenly through the opening 42 minutes, each registering one shot on goal and two corner kicks. St. John's generated several promising opportunities in the attacking third, earning five free kicks during the opening half. However, with just under two minutes remaining before the break, Boston College's Addison Kalaw capitalized to take a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Eagles doubled their lead in the 56th minute with Sophie Reale finding the back of the net on a strike from just outside the top of the box.
St. John's responded in the 67th minute as Palmeri tucked home a bouncing cross into the box off the foot of Basile into the back of the twine to climb within one, 2-1, with 23:37 remaining. The Johnnies continued to push for the equalizer down the stretch, nearly finding it in the final five minutes when Snæfríður Eva Eiríksdóttir sent a header narrowly off target. Despite the late pressure, the Red Storm was unable to draw level, falling to Boston College, 2-1.
The Red Storm will return to Queens for Senior Day on Thursday when it welcomes Towson for a 4 p.m. tilt at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.
