QUEENS, N.Y. - With a 3.46 grade point average , the St. John's women's soccer team earned a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2006-07 academic year.
The GPA is the highest recorded under head coach Ian Stone and is tied for the 30th best out of the 295 women's teams that were honored ranging from Division I to Division III. St. John's academic success also ranks among the best in Division I schools listed and is tops among the BIG EAST teams named for the honor.
"Our entire staff is so proud of this accomplishment by the team," Stone said. "Achieving this GPA and receiving this prestigious honor is a reward for the hard work and effort the team put into their academic pursuits.
"We also have to thank the Student Athlete Center for Excellence for supporting the team to achieve their academic success, and we also appreciate the support from the remarkable faculty at the University."
This honor marks the fourth time in five years that the women's soccer team has garnered acclaim for its off-field academic success.
