QUEENS, N.Y. -
The St. John's women's basketball team wraps up its two-game homestand on Tuesday when it welcomes the University of Massachusetts to Carnesecca Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7:05 p.m.
• The game will feature live streaming video and audio by purchasing StormTracker All-Access on www.REDSTORMSPORTS.com. There will also be live stats featured on the website which can be accessed for free.
• St. John's will be looking to extend its three-game win streak while improving its overall slate of 5-1. The Red Storm is coming off a 76-69 win over Boston University on Saturday afternoon.
• The game with UMass marks the second and last contest against a team from Massachusetts this season. The Minutewomen-Red Storm meeting this season marks the 11th all-time between the two teams. St. John's holds the edge in the series, 7-3. Although the Red Storm has lost the last two meetings with UMass, no St. John's squad under coach Kim Barnes Arico has ever faced the Minutewomen because the teams haven't met since 1998. The series started during the 1976-77 season and was a yearly event until it ended after the 1983-84 campaign. During that span, the Red Storm won seven of eight contests. The series was resumed in 1997 and continued in 1998, with UMass winning both meetings.
70 Points Secures a Win
• There seems to be a theme early in the season for the Red Storm. When St. John's scores 70 points or more, it has posted a perfect 4-0 record. St. John's has scored 72 points against Army, 74 points against Dartmouth, 71 against Monmouth and 76 against BU. If the Red Storm scores 60-69 points, it has posted a record of 1-1.
Off To A Good Start
• St. John's is off to a great start on the season, winning five of its six opening contests. The 5-1 start on the season is tied for the 11th best in the history of the program and is the third best start under head coach Kim Barnes Arico.
Scouting UMass
• The Minutewomen are coming off a 72-60 win over Hartford on Saturday. The victory ended the team's four-game losing skid and put UMass' record at 3-4 on the year.
• Three players scored in double figures for the Minutewomen. Pam Rosanio led the way with 22 points, while Kate Mills chipped in 18 and Stefanie Gerardot scored 11. Mills also paced the way on the defensive side, pulling in 14 boards.
• On the year, Mills and Rosanio are the team's scoring leaders and are ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in rebounding. Mills is averaging 17.0 points and 6.7 boards, while Rosanio is averaging 15.6 points and 5.0 rebounds.
• St. John's and UMass share a common opponent - Vermont - however the outcome was different. The Red Storm lost its only game of the season to VU, 66-48, on Nov. 18, while the Minutewomen came out on top, 69-68, on Nov. 9.
