St. John's Prepares For Second Road Game

Red Storm Faces Knights In Second Road Contest
- In the very first meeting between two worthy opponents, the St. John???s Red Storm and Bellarmine Knights will face off in Louisville, Ky. at the Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
- Both the Red Storm and Knights are looking for their first wins of the season. St. John???s lost their season opener on the road to the Bucknell Bison, 10-4 on Feb. 18; and the Knights dropped their first game to the Maryland Terrapins, 11-6 on Feb. 17.
- Experience is on the side of the Red Storm as the Knights return just five starters from their 2006 rotation, while the Red Storm returns 16.
On The Penalty Kill
- St. John???s holds a slight advantage over Bellarmine on man-up scoring opportunities as the Knights went 1-6 in penalty kills against Maryland, and the Red Storm went 1-5 against Bucknell. However, the Red Storm defense held the Bison to 0-3 on penalty kills, while Bellarmine allowed Maryland to take advantage of eight man-up opportunities to score three goals.
At the ???X???
- Bellarmine fared well against the No. 6 Terps in face-offs as they won nine of 21. The Red Storm only won six of their 18 face-off opportunities against Bucknell.
Storm Tracker
- Junior Graeme Gillsepie leads the team in scoring with two goals against the Bucknell Bison. Junior Justin O???Donnell and sophomore Drew Schanen also added one goal each.
- Junior goalie Dave Saccente marked 12 saves against the Bucknell Bison last weekend.
Scouting the Knights
- Six of Bellarmine??????s opponents are ranked among the top 20 in Inside Lacrosse???s pre-season poll.
- The Knights faced No. 6 Maryland in their season opener on Feb. 17, falling to the Terps, 11-6. Bellarmine led 2-1 before Maryland rallied back with five consecutive goals and held the Knights scoreless in the second period.
- Lost a top scorer and top defender from last year to the National Lacrosse League Draft.
- Bellarmine played five ranked opponents last season, including national champion Virginia and pre-season No. 2 Duke.
A Balanced Offense
- Junior Adam Gardner will lead the 2007 Knight attack. Gardner totaled 28 goals, including five against Virginia Military Institute. He finished among the top 40 in the nation in points per game.
- After playing midfield his first two seasons, junior Ray Finnegan will move up to attack. Finnegan has tallied 23 goals in his Knight career.
- Freshman rookie Dylan MacDougall adds to the offense this season after registering over 300 points during his prep career. MacDougall scored early in the third period against Maryland, notching his first collegiate goal and bringing the Knights to within three at 7-4.
Between The Pipes
- Senior J.C. Hutchins from Westminster, Md., finished among the nation???s best in save percentage and goals against average in 2006. He marked a 7-8 record as a starter, racked 154 saves and had an 8.62 GAA.
