Latoya Blunt Named Strength And Conditioning All-American

St. John???s junior Latoya Blunt has recently been named one of the National Strength and Conditioning Association???s (NCSA) Annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year. The award is in recognition of her dedication to strength training and conditioning.
This year, the NSCA awarded 239 collegiate athletes from 165 schools with this honor. The Red Storm volleyball right side and outside hitter was selected for this honor by St. John???s Director of Strength and Conditioning Robert Basile.
???Latoya is an outstanding student-athlete who continually does a tremendous job during each strength and conditioning training session,??? said Basile. ???Not only has her work ethic and enthusiasm allowed her to make excellent gains in strength and power, but also has motivated her teammates to train with intensity and passion. Her success in the weight room has carried over to the court. This 2006 season she posted career highs in kills and hitting percentage.???
Blunt???s work ethic and skills made her a pivotal part in the success of the St. John???s volleyball team???s 31-5 overall record and the program???s first trip to the NCAA Tournament. For her work on the court, she was named to the second team All-BIG EAST after helping the Red Storm to a perfect 14-0 record and the program???s first BIG EAST regular season title.
She led the team in total blocks posting 0.81 per game, was fourth in kills, averaging 2.96 per game, and was third on the squad with a .286 hitting percentage. This season, Blunt entered the Red Storm all-time career leaders list in kills and total blocks. She ranks sixth in kills (987) and seventh in blocks (266), and is also ranked ninth in highest career hitting percentage (.244).
