Senior first baseman Ryan Mahoney was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Wednesday with inclusion on its All-Northeast Region team. Mahoney received second team accolades after hitting .288 and leading the Red Storm with 13 home runs and 58 RBI.
Mahoney put his name on several of St. John's single-season records lists, as he also earned first team All-BIG EAST honors. The big first baseman ranked fifth on the Red Storm's single-season home run list and in a fourth place tie on the single-season RBI list. He was also listed among the BIG EAST Conference leaders in homers (5th), RBI (8th) and slugging percentage (.571, 6th).
One of Mahoney's many highlights in 2007 came on April 17 when he went 4-for-5 and hit for the cycle at LIU. His four hits were a season and career-high as he also hit the first of his two triples in 2007. The effort landed Mahoney on the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll and preceded a no-hitter by sophomore pitcher Scott Barnes just three days later at Georgetown.
St. John's made the program's 30th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2007. The No. 3 seed Red Storm fell to No. 2 Clemson, 3-2, in its tournament opener, then defeated No. 4 VCU, 5-4, on a walk-off home run by Chris Anninos, and lost to top-seeded Coastal Carolina, 6-5, in an elimination game on June 3.
