QUEENS, N.Y. - Trips to Florida, New Orleans, Princeton and a home event in Puerto Rico highlight a strong spring schedule for the Red Storm men's golf team. St. John's tees off the spring season Feb. 23 and 24 at the Bethune Cookman Spring Invitational at Indigo Lakes C.C. in Daytona Beach, Fla.
"My players are very excited about this upcoming spring season," said head coach Frank Darby. "I am proud of how hard they have worked to improve themselves both during the season and out of season. Assistant coach Pete Solana and I have really enjoyed being around this team. This is a very deep and talented team and we are in a good position to get back to the NCAA Regionals."
St. John's is coming off an impressive fall season in which the team medaled in every event they competed in. The team is also coming off a win at the UTSA Roadrunner Intercollegiate. The squad is lead by senior co-captain Keegan Bradley and sophomore Mike Ballo Jr. who are both ranked 64th in the Golfstat collegiate rankings.
The Red Storm host the first ever Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate in Puerto Rico on March 10 and 11. "The Palmas Del Mar is a beautiful facility with a fine golf course," says Darby. "This is the first year of the intercollegiate and I look forward to this becoming a very popular collegiate event with an outstanding field being showcased this year."
St. John's also heads to Louisiana for the Carter Plantation Invitational just outside of New Orleans on March 24 and 25. The team will also travel to East Carolina for the Ironwood Intercollegiate and to Princeton, N.J. to defend their title at the Princeton Invitational on April 11 and 12.
The BIG EAST Championship will be hosted by the University of Cincinnati from April 20-22 at the Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Kentucky. The winner receives and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA East Regional will be held in Chattanooga, Tenn. at the Council Fire Golf Club on May 15-17 followed by the NCAA Championships in Purdue, Ind. on May 28-31.
