Red Storm Hosts Annual Cross Country Fall Festival Sunday

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's cross country team will host the annual Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 19, at Cunningham Park in Queens, N.Y. Nine women's and five men's teams will compete in the multi-divisional event which is set to begin at 10 a.m.
The women's 4K race is set for 10 a.m. with a men's 5K to follow at 10:30. A short awards presentation will also take place at Cunningham Park at 11:15 a.m.
The Fall Festival will be preceded by a one-mile fun run/walk to benefit the fight against breast cancer starting at 9:30 a.m.
A post-race cross country and track & field alumni reception will take place in the Storm Center at St. John's Queens campus' University Center. The brunch reception will feature St. John's alumnus Rich Torrellas, of USA Track & Field who served as the women's team's head manager for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Teams competing against the Red Storm include Concordia College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Fordham University, Hofstra University, the defending Division III National Champions Suffolk Community College, Southern Connecticut State University and Dominican College.
So far this season, the Red Storm has defeated Fordham by 22 points at the 32nd Annual Leeber Invitational, hosted by Fairfield, on Sept. 27 and at the Metropolitan Championships last Friday by 57 points. The team also raced ahead of Hofstra with a near perfect score of 15 points at the Hofstra Invitational on Sept. 6.
Last season, St. John's finished second at the event with 42 points. Senior Tyneka Greene was the individual champion with a time of 14:08. Fordham University won the event with 28 points.
