History Lesson
• The Red Storm and the Catamounts meet for the fourth time in history, with St. John's holding the slight edge in the all-time series, 2-1. The Red Storm has never hosted Vermont at home, and has a 1-1 record on the road and a 1-0 slate at a neutral site. The teams met twice in the late 70's, with STJ winning both contests, then took close to a 30-year break before meeting last season at UV's tournament. Vermont came away with the 66-48 victory on Nov. 18, 2007, in the TD Banknorth Tournament championship game.
Scouting The Catamounts
• Vermont enters the contest with a 4-1 slate and has won three straight games. Two of the last three games for the Catamounts have gone into overtime, and UV has come away with the win both times. The Catamounts are coming off a 69-50 victory over Manhattan on Nov. 28 in Riverdale, N.Y. The game was the first road trip for UV, as four of its five games have been in Burlington, Vt.
Undefeated Start To Season
• The Red Storm has opened the season 5-0 for the fourth time in history and the first time since 2005-06. The last time it opened the season perfect through five games, the Red Storm made a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Spark Off The Bench
• Aricia Mitchell came off the bench against Stony Brook on Nov. 28 and provided a much needed spark for the Red Storm. She only saw action in 14 minutes, but contributed eight points, four rebounds and a block.
KBA Edges Closer To 100th Win At STJ
• Head coach Kim Barnes Arico is edging closer to her 100th-program victory at St. John's. She is only nine shy of the career milestone, as she currently has a record of 91-91 through seven seasons.
