QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team will look to pick up its eighth win of the season when it travels to face local foe LIU at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Wellness Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

History Lesson

The Red Storm holds the all-time series record, 4-1, and has a 3-0 slate at home, a 0-1 record on the road and a 1-0 mark at a neutral site. All five meetings between STJ and LIU came during the 70's. The Blackbirds won the initial meeting on Dec. 12, 1974, 52-43, but the Red Storm bounced back and won the next four contests.
Scouting The Blackbirds
• LIU has lost its last two contests and three of its last four to enter the game with a 4-5, 0-1 NEC record. Three of LIU's five losses have been decided by three points or less. The Blackbirds are coming off a 66-49 loss to Central Connecticut State in its conference opener on Dec. 11.
• Two players are averaging double figures in scoring for LIU. Ashley Palmer, a redshirt freshman, paces the way averaging a team-best 19.9 points, while rookie Chelsi Johnson is contributing 10.2 ppg. Combined, the tandem is responsible for more than half of LIU's points, as the Blackbirds are averaging 56.6 per game. Palmer is also the team's defensive leader, averaging a double-double with an 11.0 rebounding average. Connie James, a junior, is second netting 5.4 rpg.
Stat Of The Week

McManmon Close To Entering Top 10
• With 80 career 3-pointers made, Kelly McManmon is only two long-distance baskets away from entering the top 10 in the STJ record books. The senior would tie Margaret McKeon and Rasheedah Brown for ninth with 82. McManmon only needs six to tie Yvonne Wilson for eighth with 86.
