QUEENS, N.Y. - For the second consecutive week, senior pitcher George Brown has been named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. Brown (4-0) has now earned Pitcher of the Week honors twice and has also been named to the honor roll once this season.
The lefty tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in a 2-0 shutout win against Rutgers on March 22. Brown allowed only three singles and faced just five batters over the minimum. The southpaw induced a pair of double plays, added three strikeouts and retired eight straight batters at one point.
A week ago, Brown was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after a career-best 10 strikeout performance in a win over Albany. Brown allowed just one run over 6.0 innings and scattered three hits. The lefty struck out the side once, had two strikeouts in an inning three times and retired 10 consecutive batters beginning with the final out of the second inning.
Brown was named to the honor roll following the opening weekend of play after earning a win against Gardner-Webb.
The senior currently ranks eighth in the BIG EAST with a 2.32 ERA. Brown's .205 opponent batting average is tied for sixth with teammate Scott Barnes and the lefty also ranks sixth with 31.0 innings pitched. Brown is tied for second with four wins.
