Hopkins Named To BIG EAST Baseball Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - For the third consecutive week, the St. John's baseball team earned a weekly honor from the BIG EAST Conference as freshman Greg Hopkins was named to the honor roll. It is the first career conference accolade for the short stop.
Hopkins batted an impressive .571 for the week, while boasting a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .684 on-base percentage. Hopkins had three multi-hit games and, scored six runs, collected five RBI and had one double, one triple and a home run. The freshman also extended his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games.
Hopkins opened the week's play in impressive fashion against Columbia. The short stop went 2-for-3, belted a home run, scored twice and picked up two RBI.
The freshman's hot week continued against Seton Hall. In the first of three games, Hopkins was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and RBI. Hopkins scored two more runs in the second game, while adding an RBI and a double. In the finale, Hopkins registered his ninth multi-hit game of the season with a 2-for-5 showing and also added an RBI.
Hopkins currently ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with a team best .406 batting average. The freshman is also third in the league with a .506 on-base percentage and ranks seventh with a .623 slugging percentage.
