Yecker Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior pitcher Jared Yecker was named to the BIG EAST baseball weekly honor roll following his performance in a 1-0 win over UConn. It is the first conference honor of the year for Yecker, who was also named to the honor roll once as a sophomore.
Yecker tossed 6.0 scoreless innings to earn the win in a 1-0 pitcher's duel that clinched a series win for St. John's against the Huskies. The righty struck out six, walked none and surrendered just four singles. Yecker (3-0) worked four 1-2-3 innings and faced just 21 batters.
On the season, Yecker boasts a 2.63 ERA and has 25 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. Yecker also allows just a .196 opponent batting average.
As a team, meanwhile, St. John's continues to put up numbers that place the squad at or near the top of the BIG EAST rankings. The pitching staff ranks first in the league with a 3.30 ERA and a .224 opponent batting average. The staff is also first with 279 strikeouts and 14 saves. Offensively, the team ranks fourth with a .292 batting average and is fifth with a .413 slugging percentage.
Senior lefty George Brown leads the BIG EAST with seven wins and Colin Lynch leads the league with 10 saves. Senior Matt Tosoni, meanwhile, ranks first in the conference with a 1.35 ERA and Brown is fifth with a 2.45 ERA. Junior Scott Barnes is tops in the league with a .201 opponent batting average and is also second with 49 strikeouts.
St. John's returns home for a non-conference game against Hofstra at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16.
