QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's golf team heads to Greenville, N.C. to compete in the Ironwood Invitational. The three day tournament is hosted by East Carolina on April 4-6 at the Ironwood county club.
"We have started off a bit slow this spring because of a should injury to senior co-captain George Zolotas, who has missed the past two events, and a couple of players struggling to find their swings after the winter break," said head coach Frank Darby. "We are ready for this event and look forward to getting back to our winning ways."
The Red Storm is led by senior co-captain Keegan Bradley and sophomore Mike Ballo Jr. Bradley, an All-America candidate, is currently ranked No. 27 in the nation with a 71.12 scoring average. The senior boasts three top-10 finishes including a win, in the three events of the spring season. Sophomore sensation Ballo Jr. has been equally impressive, ranking 107th in the nation with a scoring average of 72.08 and three top-20 finishes.
There are only six BIG EAST golfers in the top 250 Golfstat Cup rankings this season. St. John's boasts two of the top four in the BIG EAST over this year's campaign.
The starting five for the Red Storm is rounded out by juniors Kevin Velardo and Casey Calmi, and sophomore Evan Beirne.
