St. John's Cruises To 87-51 Win Over Stetson

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team's offense got going early and often and surged to an 87-51 win over Stetson on Tuesday night at Carnesecca Arena.
With the win the Red Storm improved to a perfect 6-0 on the year. With the loss, Stetson's record drops to 0-5 this season.
Four Red Storm players reached double figures in scoring, helping spark the offense to a 51.6 field goal percentage in the game, including a 43.8 clip from 3-point range.
The St. John's defense was stingy, holding Stetson to a 31.0 field goal percentage for the game, while posting 10 blocks to the Hatters' one.
Sky Lindsay had one of her best offensive performances of the season with a game-high 18 points en route to her second double-digit scoring performance of the year. The junior was 6-of-10 from the field, 1-of-2 from 3-point range and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Lindsay also tallied a game-high and career-high eight assists, and filled up the stat sheet with one block and one steal.
Kelly McManmon came off the bench and scored a season-high 15 points, going 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from long distance. The senior also chipped in five rebounds, two assists and one block in the victory.
Joy McCorvey posted her first double-double of the year with a 14-point, 11-rebound performance. McCorvey, who scored 12 of her 14 points in the final frame, was 7-of-11 from the field. With her 11 boards in the game, the senior entered the Red Storm career record books and is currently tied for ninth with 597 rebounds.
Rookie Amanda Burakoski registered her first-career double-digit scoring game with a 12-point effort off the bench. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native was 4-of-8 from the field, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe. She also added a game-high four blocks in 19 minutes of action.
Lindsay got things going in the contest when she hit back-to-back jumpers to spark an 11-0 opening-half run for the Red Storm. After Stetson got on the board for the first time at the 11:40 mark, the teams traded baskets until St. John's went on a 25-10 run to close the frame ahead 43-20.
The Red Storm continued to surge in the second half, using a 20-7 run to take a 36-point lead, 63-27, at the 11:59 mark. St. John's momentum continued to build as the Red Storm never looked back and closed out with the 36-point victory.
St. John's will look to continue its winning streak on Friday when it travels to face Columbia at 12:30 p.m.
