St. John's Continues Homestand On Sunday With Rhode Island

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team continues its homestand on Sunday when it welcomes Rhode Island to Carnesecca Arena at 1:30 p.m. This game is the second in a series of four-straight at home for the Red Storm, who has posted a perfect 3-0 slate in Queens this year.
• The St. John's men's team is also home on Sunday, and welcomes Fordham to Carnesecca Arena at 4 p.m. in a separate ticketed event.
• The Red Storm is off to an 8-1 start this season, and received 10 votes in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll. STJ has received votes in the AP Poll every week it has been released during the regular season.
• RedStormSports.com will stream the game live through StormTracker All-Access. The contest will have a live video and audio broadcast, which will feature a multi-camera setup. Fans can access the feature by going to RedStormSports.com, clicking on the All-Access button and signing up for the service. The All-Access subscription is $9.95 a month or $79.95 for the year. There will also be live stats for the contest that can be accessed for free.
History Lesson
• The Rams and Red Storm meet for the 11th time in history. St. John's leads the all-time series 6-4, including a perfect 4-0 mark at home. The teams have not met each other since the 2002-03 campaign when Rhode Island posted the 80-64 win at home.
Scouting The Rams
• Rhode Island enters the contest with a 4-5 record. After losing their first three games of the year, the Rams bounced back and have won four of their last six, including their last contest, a 60-49 win over Brown on Dec. 9.
• One URI player is averaging double figures in scoring. Ashley Rivera is pacing the team with 13.0 points per game. The freshman is 39-of-100 from the field, shooting 39.0 percent, and is the leading 3-point specialist, connecting on 28-of-65 to average 43.1 percent. Megan Shoniker is nearly averaging double digits with 9.9 points per contest. The leading rebounder is senior Lindsay Harris, who is grabbing 8.6 boards per game.
Five Reach Double Figures In Scoring For Third Time
• Five St. John's players reached double figures in scoring in the team's win over LIU on Dec. 10. Centhya Hart led the Red Storm with a career-high 18 points, 11 coming in the final half. Joy McCorvey finished as the team's second-leading scorer with 14 points. Da'Shena Stevens and Sky Lindsay contributed 11 points apiece in the victory, while Eugeneia McPherson scored all 10 of her points in the second half.

• The Red Storm is 3-0 this season when five or more players score in double figures, and is 7-0 when four or more players score in double digits.
Hart On Fire
• Hart is off to a stellar start this season both offensively and defensively. The junior is averaging a career-high 9.1 points and 6.3 rebounds through nine games. She is tied as the team's third-leading scorer, and is the third-leading rebounder. She has been one of the most effective shooters for the team, connecting on 30-of-53 attempts to average 56.6 percent. She has posted one double-double this year, a 10-point, 12-rebound performance against Boston University on Nov. 21, and scored a career-high 18 points against LIU on Dec. 10. Hart has recorded at least one steal in eight games this year, and has tallied at least one assist in seven games.
McManmon Close To Holding Record
• Kelly McManmon is only 11 treys away from breaking the St. John's career 3-point record held by Monique McLean with 172. McManmon currently has 162 career treys.

Barnes Arico Close To Second All-Time In Wins
• Head coach Kim Barnes Arico has led the Red Storm to unprecedented success while at the helm of the program. Through eight seasons, she has amassed 113 program victories, and is only five away from tying Don Perrelli for the second most wins all-time at St. John's.
On Deck
• The Red Storm will continue its homestand when it hosts the St. John's-Chartwells Holiday Classic Dec. 19-20. On Dec. 19, the Red Storm will face Texas-Arlington at 1 p.m., and Virginia Tech will face UAB at 3 p.m. On Dec. 20, the consolation game will take place at noon and the championship game will be held at 2 p.m.
