PRINCETON, N.J. - The St. John's men's tennis team lost to Princeton, 5-2, on Saturday, at the Tigers' Jadwin Gymnasium. In defeat, the Red Storm falls to 4-4, with all four losses coming at the hands of Ivy League opponents, while Princeton improves to 3-3 overall.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the match by sweeping the doubles play. STJ's tandem of freshman Milo Hauk and senior Gustavo Loza forced Princeton's George Carpeni and Yohei Shoji to a tiebreaker at No. 3, but the Tigers' duo prevailed, 8-7 (5).
In singles, junior Martin Kosut kept his record perfect, picking up his team-leading sixth victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set win at the No. 5 spot over Princeton's Ryan Kim. At No. 6, senior Jordan Talbot defeated Shoji, 6-4, 7-5, to earn St. John's second point of the match.
The Red Storm will have some time away from competition before traveling to Tampa, Fla. for a spring break trip. While in the Sunshine State, STJ will take on Radford and Boston University (March 11), BIG EAST opponent USF (March 12), Florida Gulf Coast (March 13) and Florida Atlantic (March 14).
