Men's Tennis Drops Two Matches To Ranked Opponents

TAMPA, Fla. - The St. John's men's tennis team fell to a pair of nationally ranked opponents in consecutive days, No. 48 Radford and No. 50 USF, continuing its Spring Break trip in the Sunshine State. The Highlanders blanked the Red Storm, 7-0, while the Bulls edged STJ, 4-3, in both teams' BIG EAST openers.
Both opponents swept doubles play, forcing the Red Storm to play from behind in each match.
Radford's singles lineup was strong, as each played defeated their St. John's counterparts in straight sets.
Against USF, the Bulls clinched the match with wins at the top three singles spots. For the Red Storm, freshman Milo Hauk, sophomore Pavel Cerny and junior Martin Kosut were victorious in the second half of the lineup, each winning in third-set tiebreakers. Hauk defeated USF's Romain Deridder at No. 4, 3-6, 6-4, (10-7), while Cerny won 6-7, 6-2, (10-5) at No. 5 over Mark Oljaca. Kosut picked up a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(10-7) win at No. 6 over the Bulls' Thomas Estrada, after suffering his first lost the day before against Radford.
St. John's continues its Spring Break trip on Saturday, when the squad will take on Florida Atlantic at 3:30 p.m., at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
