QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's rookie attackman Harry Kutner was named Co-ECAC Player Of The Week after his eight-point performance over two games last week.
The freshman from Garden City, N.Y., tallied eight points on six goals and two assists in the Red Storm's 1-1 non-conference week against Siena and Lehigh. Kutner shares the accolade with Fairfield's John Snellman, also a freshman attackman.
At Siena on March 17, Kutner helped St. John's come-from-behind and take the lead in the third quarter, assisting Jamal Jones' goal at 11:50 in the third to tie the score at three, then scoring man-up five minutes later to give STJ its first lead of the game at 7:41. He also assisted on the Red Storm's final goal of the contest at 7:49 to seal the deal in the 8-5 victory.
Against Lehigh on Saturday, Kutner scored a career-high of five goals, starting the scoring momentum for St. John's after Lehigh jumped out to a 4-0 lead. He scored two goals in the second period to cut the Lehigh lead to 5-3 going into halftime. In the second half, Kutner scored three more times with his final goal giving St. John's the lead 9-8, with 1:13 to play in regulation.
Up next, St. John's will take part in the annual "Lacrosse Day of Champions" hosted by the Indians Rock Community Foundation on March 28. The Red Storm will play Rutgers at noon in an ECAC Conference matchup. The game will take place at Manhasset High School in Manhasset, N.Y.
