QUEENS, N.Y. -
On Saturday, the Red Storm lacrosse team will travel to State College, Pa., looking for a conference win against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Prior to traveling, senior attackman Bobby Fitton sat down with senior captain Jamal Jones to answer some of Jones' questions on the season, pregame rituals and more to help Red Storm fans get to know Fitton better.
Fitton has taken over the starting role as a lefty attacker in the past two games against Rutgers (March 28) and at Massachusetts (April 4). He made his season debut at Siena on March 17 and notched his first goal of the year with 7:49 left to go in the fourth period. He scored his second goal against Lehigh to bring the Red Storm within one goal, 7-6, with 10:29 left in the final stanza.
According to head coach Jason Miller, Fitton is "one of the most skilled players we have. He can play both the left-handed attack spots equally well."
Teammates for three seasons, this year's crop of seniors are a tight knit group who don't mind sharing some mid-season thoughts with Red Storm lacrosse fans or each other.
Jamal Jones: Can you explain where your nickname "Toosie" came from?
Bobby Fitton: It came from the weird minds of Drew [Schanen] and [Tom] Manes. They speak to each other in a weird language and started to call me that.
JJ: What are your pregame rituals?
BF: I don't really have any. But for home games, I go to Romeos for dinner and get a chicken parm hero with pasta. For dessert, I go to Cold Stone where I get the birthday cake remix.
JJ: Who is the teammate that you look up to the most and why?
BF: You and the other captains Dom DeNapoli and Matt Viscusi. I feel you are all great players who work hard and carry themselves well on and off the field.
JJ: What are you going to take away from your experience with the lacrosse team the past four years?
BF: Working with a team all trying to achieve one common goal.
JJ: What is one of your favorite movies to watch on the bus during road trips?
BF: Either "Gladiator" or "300."
JJ: What is your favorite Coach Miller Quote?
BF: "It's not about the X's and O's, it's about the Jimmy's and Joe's."
JJ: My roommate and fellow senior Tom Manes is known for being the "Main Street barber," are you ever going to let him get his hands on your head?
BF: I've actually been thinking about going to the "Main Street Barber" once it gets hot out. I hear he does a really good job and his prices are low.
JJ: How long does it take you to get your hair just right everyday? What's the process?
BF: I don't do anything to it unless I have to look nice and dress up like on away games. I just use gel and slick it back with my hands which only takes a minute.
JJ: What are your goals for the Penn State game?
BF: This weekend we really need to get a win. We haven't been successful the past three weeks and a win is what we really need.
