Aleksova Leads St. John's At Eastern Intercollegiate Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior Ira Aleksova claimed the consolation singles final as the St. John's women's tennis team competed at the Eastern Intercollegiate Championship at Army over the weekend. Aleksova won five in singles play in the tournament.
Ksenia Mikhaylova and Joanna Zwirbulis captured a pair of matches before falling in the semifinals to a UMass duo of Candyce Boney and Maude Leluyse.
Alyssa Liantonia and Jenny Yonkus also competed in the double brackets, reaching the semifinals after victories in rounds one and two over St. Bonaventure and Marist. Geraldine Leong and Kristen Lim of Cornell topped Yonkus and Liantonio in the semifinal match, 8-3.
St. John's will continue play on Oct. 9-11 at the Women's College Invitational at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
