St. John's Falls To Buffalo In Season Opener

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2009-10 season at Buffalo (1-0) on Saturday, falling 5-2 to the Bulls at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, N.Y.
St. John's (0-1) earned a pair of victories in singles play as sophomore Joanna Zwirbulis defeated Aleksandra Petrova (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) at the No. 3 position and sophomore Jenny Yonkus defeated Anna Subenkova (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) at the No. 4 position.
Zwirbulis and Ksenia Mikhaylova claimed an exhibition doubles match over Sofya Ivanyik and Jenelle Jones-Mitchell (8-4).
Sophomore Nakita Austin was also victorious in her exhibition singles play with an 8-4 win over Sofya Ivanyuk.
The Red Storm continues spring action on the road at Syracuse on Jan. 30. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m.
