St. John's Falls To Stony Brook, 5-2

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis squad was topped 5-2 by Stony Brook as the Red Storm hosted its first home match of the spring 2010 season on Wednesday. STJ moves to 1-5 on the season. Stony Brook is now 5-1 this season and has won five straight matches.
Joanna Zwirbulis captured her first win of the season at the No. 1 position in her debut in the slot against the Seawolves, defeating Prerana Appineni in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Jenny Yonkus secured a second singles point for the Red Storm in the No. 4, downing Gayatri Krishnan, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in three sets.
Ksenia Mikhaylova competed in the only other three-set match, falling to Katherine Hanson, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
The Red Storm returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 20 at UMass.
