Red Storm Hosts Spring Fling Intercollegiate

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The St. John's men's golf team returns to Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla., March 12-14 to host the 2010 Spring Fling Intercollegiate at Mission Inn Resort & Club's El Campéon Golf Course.
This year's men's field includes Appalachian State, Connecticut, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Illinois, Florida Gulf Coast, Morehead State, Saint Leo, St. John's, Stetson and Tampa. Butler and IUPUI are competing in the women's tournament.
The par-71, 6,614-yard El Campéon Golf Course was the site of the 2009 Mission Inn Intercollegiate, also hosted by the Red Storm, in October. St. John's freshman Peter Ballo tied for second place at the Mission Inn Intercollegiate with a 76-66-70--212 (-1).
Teams tee off the first round from the first and 10th tees on Friday starting at 8 a.m. The Red Storm tees off from the first tee starting at 8:50 a.m. in a group with Morehead State and the Connecticut A team.
The Spring Fling is the third straight tournament St. John's has hosted to open the 2010 spring season. The Red Storm hosted the Treasure Coast Classic March 1-3 at Indian Hills Golf Course in Fort Pierce, Fla., and the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate March 8-10 at The Flamboyan in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
