St. John's Finishes Third At Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico - The St. John's men's golf team took third place Wednesday at the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate at The Flamboyan in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
The Red Storm finished at 303-285-295-883 (+19). South Carolina Upstate won the tournament at 279-295-287-861 (-3) and Old Dominion took second place at 299-285-284-868 (+4).
Red Storm senior co-captain Mike Ballo Jr. tied for sixth place, carding a 74-68-77-219 (+3). Peter Ballo tied for 14th after he bounced back from a first-round 80 with a 70 and a 72 to finish at 222 (+6). Co-captain Evan Beirne had STJ's lowest individual score in the final round, carding a one-under 71 and finishing tied with teammate Jeremy Quinn for 20th place at 225 (+9). Mark Costanza tied for 29 at 227 (+11).
USC Upstate had the top two individual finishers of the tournament. Josh Gallman carded a 68-74-69-211 (-5) and Brian Horton shot a 71-73-67-211 (-5).
St. John's next heads to Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla., March 12-14 to host its third straight Spring Break tournament, the 2010 Spring Fling Intercollegiate at Mission Inn Resort & Club's El Campéon Golf Course.
