St. John's Defeats Seton Hall, 5-2

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team defeated local rival Seton Hall, 5-2 in Queens on Friday to open up a two-match homestand. The Red Storm moves to 4-8 on the season while halting the Pirates' five-match win streak.
The Red Storm earned singles points at No. 1, 2, 3 & 4 and claimed the doubles decision to roll past the Pirates on the Queens Campus Friday.
No. 1 Ira Aleksova won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 over Denise Liebschner and Joanna Zwirbulis downed Elizabeth Verow 6-1, 6-3 to give St. John's an early lead.
Ece Firat came through at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Belfin Sunbul before Jenny Yonkus earned the final singles point for St. John's with a straight-set win over Karina Cordero.
Three doubles wins paved the way for the Red Storm's 5-2 win over Seton Hall.
The Red Storm hosts Providence on Saturday, March 20 at 1 p.m.
