St. John's Shuts Out Providence, 7-0

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team rolled past Providence, 7-0, in Queens Saturday afternoon for the Red Storm's third-consecutive victory. St. John's improves to 5-8 on the season, pushing the Friars to a 1-7 record. The Red Storm dropped just one set on the day to Providence.
St. John's earned the doubles point with wins in each of the three positions before sweeping singles play.
Ira Aleksova notched the win at No. 1 over Marisela Aviles, 6-4, 6-4.
St. John's continued with straight-set victories at No. 2, 3, 4 & 5. Joanna Zwirbulis claimed the No. 2 match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ayushi Sinha.
Ece Firat got the win in the No. 3 position over Courtney Burek, 6-1, 6-1 and Jenny Yonkus defeated Melanie Albert, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.
The Red Storm cleaned up with Ksenia Mikhaylova's 6-0, 6-2 win over Jen Cusack in the No. 5 slot and Alyssa Liantonio's three-set thriller against Melissa Ferry, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 at No. 6.
