St. John's Rolls Past Fordham, 7-0

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis squad used six singles wins and a doubles-point victory to defeat local rival Fordham on Saturday afternoon in Queens. The Red Storm captures its fifth shutout of the season and improves to 8-9 on the season, including a 3-1 record at home.
Joanna Zwirbulis stayed hot to win her 10th consecutive match with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Sarah Tremaine. She is now 14-3 on the season in singles play.
At No. 1, Ira Aleksova recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Martina Featherston. No. 6 Alyssa Liantonio also earned a point for St. John's, defeating Fordham's Brittany Russell, 6-0, 6-1. Ece Firat notched her 11th victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Bethany Boyle at No. 3. Jenny Yonkus picked up her seventh-straight win with a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Taylor Holt at No. 4 to move to 11-4 on the season in singles play. No. 5 Ksenia Mikhaylova registered a 6-2, 6-0 victory over the Rams' Jenny Mullen for her fourth consecutive win.
In doubles, Firat and Yonkus notched an 8-1 win over Tremaine and Boyle for their sixth-straight combined victory. Mikhaylova and Zwirbulis now own a 7-5 doubles record after an 8-4 win over the Rams. Aleksova and Nakita Austin helped clinch the doubles point with an 8-3 decision at No. 2.
St. John's returns to action on Thursday, April 15, traveling to face Rutgers at 2 p.m.
