St. John's Sweeps Final Spring Tournament

STORRS, Conn. - With wins over Connecticut, Yale and Central Connecticut State, the St. John's women's volleyball team swept its final tournament of the spring, hosted by Connecticut. The Red Storm recorded 2-0 victories on each of the three teams it faced on Friday afternoon in Storrs.
The victories came in the face of adversity as setter Gabriela Petkova and outside hitter Tamara Omelchenko each played through ankle injuries suffered earlier in the day. Rising seniors Kayla Motoyama and Diana Banya led St. John's against Yale, Connecticut and CCSU.
"I am really proud of them," said head coach Joanne Persico. "It was a tough year and we are really coming together as a team. We are young and learning everyday."
St. John's kicks off its 2010 season on Friday, August 27 at the Army Invitational.
