QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's baseball program held its annual fall alumni day on Saturday, Oct. 15, welcoming more than 40 members of the baseball family back to campus for a day of events.
After taking the field at Jack Kaiser Stadium for an alumni game, the alumni had lunch on the Belson Stadium terrace and had the chance to watch the current team take the field for an intrasquad scrimmage. The alumni then headed to the Sly Fox Inn for a dinner reception.
"Along with our Bullpen Winter Banquet and our Bullpen Golf Outing in the summer, our fall alumni day continues to grow every year," said head coach Ed Blankmeyer. "We brought back the alumni game this year and we plan on once again making that part of the annual tradition."
"I thought this was one of our best fall alumni events," said Hall of Fame coach Jack Kaiser. "The chance for the alumni to play together, watch the current team scrimmage and then get together for a dinner reception made for a great day and I invite all of our alumni to pencil this event into their calendars for next October."
St. John's went 36-22 in 2011 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 33rd time in program history, a total that ranks tied for eighth all-time. The schedule for the 2012 season is not yet finalized, but it has been announced that the Red Storm will open the season at the fourth annual Big Ten-BIG EAST Baseball Challenge. The Challenge (Feb. 17-19) will have St. John's take on Michigan State, Minnesota and Illinois.
