QUEENS, N.Y.- Red Storm men's golf alumnus Keegan Bradley has been named one of five golfers on the 2011 PGA Tour Player of the Year ballot. Bradley has also been named one of six candidates for the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors.
On the PGA Tour the two major postseason awards are voted upon by the active tour members with winners announced the week of Dec. 12. No golfer in the 22-year history of the awards has been named both Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season.
If Bradley were to be named Player of the Year, it would be the earliest any golfer has earned the award in their career, beating the record held by Tiger Woods, who claimed the honor in his second year on tour.
Bradley is joined by World No. 1 Luke Donald, two-time winners Webb Simpson and Nick Watney, and FedExCup champion Bill Haas. Many experts have projected it as a three-man race between Donald, Simpson and Bradley, who won titles at the PGA Championship and the HP Byron Nelson Classic in 2011. Among the group, the Red Storm great is the only one to have a major title under his belt in his career, let alone 2011.
On the Rookie of the Year ballot, Bradley is joined by 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, Chris Kirk, Scott Stallings, Brendan Steele and Jhonattan Vegas. Bradley is the only golfer on the ballot with two wins this season, as well as the only one to finish in the top-20 in the FedExCup and in the top-15 of the money list.
PGA Tour members have roughly three weeks to make their selections and return their ballots before the winners are announced.
