Team Notes
St. John's extends its home winning streak to three games and achieves its first back-to-back wins of the season.
The win is head coach Kim Barnes Arico 250th career collegiate coaching victory.
The Red Storm scored 42 points in the second half which is the team's second-highest total for a half since a 44-point first half against Hofstra on November 18, 2011.
St. John's outscored Howard 34-10 on points in the paint which is its largest differential of the season and most since a 44-18 advantage over Pittsburgh on Feb. 26, 2011.
The Red Storm outscored the Bison 17-8 in points off turnovers and are now 4-0 when winning that category.
St. John's trailed 27-21 at intermission, making it the second game in a row the Red Storm has overcome a first half deficit. St. John's defeated Temple 59-53 on Nov. 26, 2011 at the Junkanoo Jam after falling behind 28-24 in the first 20 minutes.
St. John's is now 4-2 when freshman Amber Thompson takes the opening tip.
St. John's 21-point first half was its lowest scoring first half of the season and was is the team's fewest total since a 21-point first half against Notre Dame on Jan. 23, 2011.
Individual Notes
Junior Shenneika Smith recorded her third-straight double-digit rebounding game, as she grabbed 11 boards in 33 minutes.
Smith achieved her second double-double of the season as she scored 10 points to go along with her 11 rebounds. Smith is the only Red Storm player to have a double-double in the 2011-12 season.
Junior Eugeneia McPherson scored 16 points against Howard to lead the game in scoring.
Junior Nadirah McKenith went 9-10 from the free-throw line for the game, falling just one made attempt short of a career-high.
The win over Howard is the second-straight game that Smith (10), McPherson (16) and McKenith (13) all scored in double figures.
Junior Jennifer Blanding started her second game of the season and scored two points while tying a career-high with four rebounds.
Thompson set a career-high blocking three Bison shots on the night.
Thompson shot 4-of-6 from the field and has made four field goals in each of her last three games.
