Big Red Tops Red Storm, 7-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - Playing its second Ivy League opponent in three days, the St. John's women's tennis team was shutout, 7-0, by Cornell University on Sunday afternoon. The Red Storm was unable to win a set in the match as it fell to 1-3 on the season at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y.
With the win, the Big Red improves to 2-0 on the season, with its other win coming against St. Bonaventure on Feb. 5.
Cornell opened play with consecutive wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles to clinch the point and go up 1-0 in the match. St. John's Jenny Yonkus and Nakita Austin battled in the final doubles spot, but fell short 9-7.
The Red Storm could not keep up with its Ivy League foe in singles play as the Big Red cruised to six straight-set victories to earn the 7-0 win.
St. John's now has a six-day hiatus before hosting its first dual match of the season at the Alley Pond Tennis Center in Queens. The Red Storm will welcome Howard University (1-4) to the tennis bubble on Saturday, Feb. 12. STJ shutout the Lady Bison 7-0 last season. A time has not yet been set for the match.
