St. John's Withdraws From Folino Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - The St. John's men's golf team withdrew from the Folino Invitational on Tuesday after the pace of play in the 10-team field conflicted with the team's travel arrangements.
The Red Storm entered the day tied for fifth place after shooting 291-301-592 (+24). Cal Poly won the event with a 292-291-284-867 (+15). Cal Poly's Geoff Gonzalez took the individual title with a 72-70-70-212 (-1).
After the first two rounds, St. John's freshman Ryan McCormick was in a six-way tie for first place after shooting 69-73-142 (E). McCormick's opening-round 2-under 69 tied for the third best round of the tournament. McCormick eagled hole no. 1 in the first round and recorded birdies on holes no. 6, 9, 11 and 17. In the second round, he eagled hole no. 5 and birdied holes no. 1 and 10.
Senior Mark Costanza entered the day tied for ninth after shooting 71-74-145 (+3). In the first round, Costanza birdied holes no. 1 and 9. He birdied holes no. 1, 3, 11 and 18 in the second round.
Sophomore Pat Wilson entered Tuesday tied for 22nd after shooting 72-77-149 (+7) on Monday. Wilson had birdies on holes no. 1, 13 and 18 in the first round. He birdied holes no. 1, 7 and 13 in the second round. Fellow sophomore Peter Ballo started the day tied for 39th after carding a 79-77-156 (+14). Ballo birdied the fifth hole in the first round and holes no. 9 and 15 in the second round. Fifth-year senior Evan Beirne shot a 86-78-164 (+22). He birdied on the seventh hole in the first round and the ninth hole in the second round.
The Red Storm next heads to Wallace, N.C., to compete in UNC-Wilmington's River Landing Intercollegiate from April 8-9 at River Landing Country Club.
