Red Storm Places Second At Annual Fall Festival

St. John's cross country totaled four top-ten finishes and junior Chelsea Trant finished second overall to help push the Red Storm to a second place result at the annual STJ Fall Festival held at Cunningham Park.
Fordham took the team title totaling 15 points with three runners in the top-five. St. John's finished with 19 points and an average scoring time of 16:00.88. Hofstra rounded off the top-three with 21 points and freshman Rebecca Celorio took the individual title.
Trant led the way for the Red Storm for the second straight race as she completed the 4K course with a time of 15:49.71. The next St. John's runner across the line was freshman Kerri Butler who placed sixth overall in her first race as a member of the Red Storm as she has battled injuries throughout the season. Butler ran a time of 15:57.03 which narrowly edged teammate Michelle Duffy who registered a time of 16:00.87.
Stephanie Van Pelt was the team's fourth place finisher with a time of 16:06.44. Fellow freshman Ashlin Conroy rounded out the Red Storm top-five with a time of 16:25.99 and a 13th place finish overall. Another pair of freshman were the next to complete the course as Veronica Thompson registered a time of 16:45.49 to place 17th and Michelle Van Pelt clocked in at 17:06.32 to finish 21st. Marisela Acevedo ran a time of 18:50.53.
Many of the St. John's mid-distance runners also use the Fall Festival as a way to train and also support the members of the cross country team. Trudy-Ann McLean, Claire Mooney, Tiffany Evanego, Shayna Presley, Nastasya Rodriques, Autumn Edgar, Jasmine Gomez, and Brittany Petersen all hit the course at Cunningham Park.
Fordham made it a clean sweep by also taking the men's division title with junior Michael Belgiovine taking the individual title.
St. John's returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 26 as the host of the BIG EAST Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
