KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (Feb. 25, 2011)-- The St. John's women's golf team finished up play at the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Classic on Tuesday with a team score of 309(+21) to grab a 14th place finish, with a three-day total of 930. Sophomore Harin Lee went below par again to vault up the leaderboard and tie for sixth place amongst the 179-player field.
"It was pretty windy today making for a little tougher round." Head coach Ambry Bishop said. "Harin played great and really had a chance to go low with four birdies in her first five holes. Overall, we left some shots out there, but I was pleased with our finishing coming out of the winter. Kiawah was a great host"
Lee finished the tournament 78-71-71--220 (+4), the second and third rounds matching the best score of the 2011-12 season for the 2011 BIG EAST Champion. Junior Sebin Kim tied for 77th with 79-76-80--235, giving her a strong start to her spring campaign as her second-round 76 was the second-best personal 18-hole score of the year.
Junior Jennifer Neville posted an 85-74-78--237 score line with her second round under 70 for the tournament to come back strong after a rough first day on the course. Sophomore Stephanie Eybers was the Red Storm's most consistent performer during the tournament, scoring 80-81-80--241, while senior Ellen Oswald rebounded from a rough first day battling windy conditions to shoot 88-78-80--246 for the tournament.
Augusta State took the team title with a three-round total of 877, beating out UNC-Greensboro and individual titlist Fanny Cnops, who shot 72-71-71--214 to win the event.
The Red Storm will take three weeks off before beginning a stretch that features a tournament a week for six-straight weeks, starting with the C&F Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.
