MALVERN, Pa. --The St. John's men's golf team took home a second-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational, posting a team tournament low of 296 to finish at 901 (+49). Sophomore Ryan McCormick led the way for the Red Storm, shooting a 73(+2) in the final round to place second.
"We played well today and we had a shot to win it, but we struggled a little bit on the back nine," head coach Frank Darby said. "It was good for us to come out here and play against some good teams. We obviously would have liked to take the win, but we played well."
Freshman Mitch Hadfield also posted his best result of the year, finishing with a team-low 72 in the final round to tie for sixth overall.
"I struggled a little bit on the greens in the first two rounds, but I was putting better today and I really felt like I played a lot better," Hadfield said. "We really thought we had a chance to win, but Ohio State is a really good team and they played great today."
Classmate Dylan Crowley shot a third-round 74 to finish in a tie for 16th, while juniors Jeremy Quinn and Pat Wilson each shot 77 to finish 23rd and 35th, respectively.
The Buckeyes took the team title with a three-round score of 890 (+38), while OSU's Matthew Turner took the individual title with a 212(-1).
The Red Storm will take three weeks off before heading to Irvine, Calif. for the Anteater Invitational.
