QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a season in which he became the first three-time first team All-BIG EAST selection since 2002-04, Jeremy Baltz earned third team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). A consensus All-American as a freshman in 2010, Baltz joins Mike Dzurilla (1998-99) as just the second two-time All-American in program-history.
Baltz is also the second Red Storm player to earn All-America honors this season as Matt Wessinger was named a third team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
A first team ABCA All-Northeast Region honoree, the outfielder batted .344 this season and led the team in runs scored (65), home runs (8), triples (4), RBI (52) and slugging percentage (.531). Drafted in the second round (68th overall) by the San Diego Padres, Baltz added 18 stolen bases and a .431 on-base percentage.
Baltz also earned NCAA Tournament Chapel Hill Regional MVP honors after leading the Red Storm to its first-ever Super Regional. A two-time NCAA Tournament Regional MVP, Baltz previously earned MVP honors at the 2010 Charlottesville Regional.
The 2012 St. John's baseball team advanced to its first-ever NCAA Super Regional and won its first NCAA Regional since 1980. The squad also won both the BIG EAST Tournament and regular season crowns in the same season for the first time in program-history and finished 40-23, notching its sixth 40-win season in the past eight years.
